Your Questions About [get Your Dog To Eat]

Robert asks…
Need help finding an excellent dog food for my Jack Russell!?
He is 3 months old and a very finicky eater. He refuses to eat dog food so I thought I would just make his food (got a recipe from my Vet). However, that proved to be very time consuming and I wasnt even sure if I was adding the right amounts of each food group so I decided to go for a high quality dog food.
I bought him Natural Balance (Dick Van Patten brand) but he just sniffed it and walked away and I was reading on Yahoo answers that brand was recalled! Grrr!
So PLEASE if you have any advice or have personal experience with a high quality dog food, let me know!
I have a Jack Russell who are known for their skin allergies so keep that in mind if you know of any dog food that will prevent skin allergies.
Me and my hungry puppy thank you!!!!

Nutro is the best food you can buy. It is super affordable, the company has been in business for over 80 years. There are no by products, no ground yellow corn, no soy. They guarantee that your dog will eat less, shed less, and you will clean up less because your dog absorbs more or your $$$ back. Nutro Max is about 5-7.00 a bag. Canidae is very expensive and hard to find. If you find a Nutro rep in the stores on weekends you can probably get a 2.00 coupon making your purchase even cheaper. Nutro Ultra is the best. It features three meats and all holistic ingredients.

Need to change dog food. Looking for experience.?
After trying lamb and beef based dog foods, my Cocker seemed to prefer Chicken, and that’s what we’ve fed her for 4 years. She’s starting to get finicky now. Probably our fault since my kids feed her scraps from the table, which delights her. Also, she chews her paws occasionally, which is said to be an allergic response – possibly to food – but not necessarily.
So, I’m looking for a new food. I want a maximum of protein and a minimum of corn, and one that won’t exacerbate her allergies. Ideas?

Well, it may be grains that are bothering your dog, so how about Taste Of The Wild. They have all different formulas, which are grain free.

Mandy asks…
How can I entice my puppy to eat her food?
I have a 12 week old Jack russell puppy and she doesn’t like her dry dog food. I feed her Wellness Puppy food. I am thinking of buying some Wellness canned food to mix it in with. I have tried putting in a little milk with her food. I even stopped feeding her scraps and only aloud her to eat her dog food.
I am switching to another dog food after she finishes this one. What premium dog food does your finicky dog like?
It’s just that she is getting kinda skinny. I didn’t put much milk in there but I guess I should have my family stop with the scraps. I have quit feeding her scraps but the rest of my family hasn’t. Her appetite is there I know because she will eat her fill of treats but she just noses around her food. Ever since I’ve gotten her she has been picky with dog food and begging for our food.
She isn’t depressed I spend all my time with her since I’m not working at the moment perhaps she could use more exercise.
She has also been vet checked, dewormed, vaccinated. So there is no health problems.

I think no.one is probably right but just to be sure, is this a recent thing (as in in the last few days) or is it since you got her? If since you got her I imagine you’ll have been to a vet and checked everything out, but if it’s recent I recommend that if your puppy really is refusing to eat you start by making sure that it’s not a symptom of something physically wrong.
If all is well and puppy is perfectly healthy then I would warn you not to allow her to get finiky. That is, exactly as no.one said below, when she’s hungry she will eat. If you start to give her more yummy things to bribe her to eat then before you know it she’ll be 5 years old and you’ll have to cook a filet minion every evening for her
So get a good dry food (better for the teeth than wet!) and there are plenty out there – and save anything else to use as high value rewards for when she’s behaving exceptionally well or had a break-through moment in training. Act like the food is the most wonderful thing and that you want it all to yourself, and hopefully she’ll happily “help” you to eat it
ps. Another thought – even if she is healthy, is she otherwise a normal, happy and active puppy? Depression is the other thing that might lead to not eating – and not knowing your situation maybe there’s something there and she’s feeling a bit depressed (too long alone? Not enough focused happy time playing with you?)
