Your Questions About [get Your Dog To Eat]

Mark asks…

Dog-Carbon Monoxide Poisoning?

My husband and I just drove from Colorado to Tennessee and since being here, our dog hasn’t eaten much (a tiny bit of canned dog food) and the first couple of days was vomiting and having diarrhea.

We can’t come up with any other reason why our dog might be sick other than her riding in the back of the truck (with camper shell) all the way here. I have a feeling that the exhaust from the truck might have been seeping into the camper shell and poisoned her.

She is doing a lot better and is drinking water and eating a little bit. Of course now with it being the Christmas weekend, I can’t get a hold of a vet.

My question is for those who might have experienced this-how long did it take for your dogs to get over the symptoms? Thank you in advance and Happy Holidays!
No, I don’t think it is carsickness because she has gone on many long rides with us before with no symptoms like these. This is the first time riding in the back under the campershell though. Thanks though!

With Carbon monoxide poisoning you would expect to see gasping as dogs like humans lose the ability to load their haemaglobin with oxygen resulting in respiratory distress (dyspnea).

Many things can cause your dog to have vomiting and diarrhea these may or may not be related to your road trip. Main thing is to ensure she stays well hydrated because you don’t want her getting electrolyte imbalances. You want to get her to a vet if the vomiting and diarrhea continues to prevent these and more problems. Don’t squirt water down her throat, best to not risk aspiration pneumonia or drowning, but do monitor what she is eating and drinking by ensuring you keep her in an area where she only has access to what you are feeding her.

As she is eating a little now that is good, I would feed her a bland diet of cooked chicken and rice over the next few days feeding small amounts frequently then slowly blending in her dog food once all the problems have subsided and of course make sure she has fresh water available at all times.

If you see any other signs of illness such as laboured breathing or blood in her stool you need to have her seen immediately but just like us dogs can get upset tummies (gastroenteritis) from bad food, viruses etc… So it may pass, you just need to keep a close eye on her.

Good luck!

someone in my neighborhood has been poisoning my dogs with antifreeze 4 in 3 months what can be done?

I do not know Who has been doing it but 4 dogs in 3 months have died the same way the first two were miss diagnosed with kennal caugh. the third we didnt get to take to the vet because it was already to late when we began to see the symptoms and she died the 4th one was diagnosed with antifreeze poisoning. and died a painfully slow death the same way the other 3 died. all with the same symptoms. I have a possible lead on who it may be but not positive. if i call a police officer to my house and make a report will anything be done? there are a few other dogs in the neighborhood that seem fine but none of them are puppies. I will not be getting another dog until i move next month but with me having a possible lead i would like to see something done. I have an abandon house next door to me and a man who lives down the street is always over there and he is NOT supossed to be i was curious as to what he was doing but he was “caught” over there when i was outside one day and he claimed he was wondering if they were going to put the house back up for rent because he was thinking about renting it if it did go up for rent. but i see him over there at least twice a week. also a part on my gate had been broken off i didnt realize it until today because we dont use that gate to access our backyard. but i have seen the man taking boxes from inside the house and wondering around inside. i havent called the cops because as soon as i see him he takes off and i dont know which house he lives in. he may also be cooking meth inside the home. he hangs out with the neighborhood meth heads who always have cops at thier house. i will only be in this house for one more month because we are renting it and we bought a house and are waiting on the closing of the home which thank god our new home is in a good neighborhood that is SAFE! i also have a cat who has not been poisoned but there is a difference we have not had the cats food outside at any point since the man started coming to the abandoned home. which has been about 5 months. has anyone encountered this problem and what happened or do you know what i can do about the situation. and i WILL be calling the cops the next time i see the man next door.

I am sooo sorry for the loss of your dogs, especially four of them! I would report the man as soon as possible to the authorities. The police can keep an eye on the house that way and maybe the man will stay away. Animal control can also be notified of the situation of people in your neighborhood poisoning animals.

Jenny asks…

Is it okay to eat hot dogs that have been sitting out for over 9 hours?

On Friday night, we had some family members over for a barbecue and we made some hot dogs. My father left the hot dogs outside on the barbecue, with the lid closed, from about 8PM – 5AM. He then put them in the fridge, and I had no idea that this had happened, and had 2 of the hot dogs cold at about 6AM Saturday morning. Am I going to get food poisoning? It is now 1AM on Sunday. I didn’t reheat the hot dogs, I like them cold, but I had no idea that they had been sitting outside on the barbecue for 9 hours! If I do get food poisoning, when will the symptoms show up? Please help, I’d really appreciate it!

admin answers:

Please don’t, you could get really sick!
