Your Questions About [get Your Dog To Eat]

Steven asks…

I wormed my puppy 1 week ago and she passed i worm today about 10 inches long, but no more will she pass more?

She is 11 weeks old and is not around other dogs much. She is a finicky eater as well. the worm looked like a long pasta noodle, but there was only one is this normal?

Dont deworm with the crap you buy in grocery or petstores. Get a stool sample to your vet and get the right medicine. Different parasites respond to different ones.

Mandy asks…

What could be wrong with my dog?

She has an appt with a vet. but meantime i just wanted to know if anyone else may have a slight idea what is going on. well shes been vomitting and having diahrea and i think it may be bc she has been eating cat crap out of the box…. i didn’t know it til i caught her yesterday. she also got into the bathroom trash and shredded up stuff. unsure of what she actually ate. the other thing about my dog is that she hates dog food, and will hold off on eating that so she could eat cat poop and other gross things. since i adressed the problem i have kept her away from the bathroom. shes always been a finicky eater anyways. shes also current on all shots…..but oddly she got sick right after her annual boosters. Any insight or has anyone had this same problem…thank you
Thank you Sword and bubbles and Darcy : )

Are you sure the food you’re feeding her is ok? Sometimes food can be too rich or not rich enough. Eating trash and cat ‘stuff’ usually means she’s lacking a certain vitamin or something specific, and she’s eating things to make her throw up b/c she doesn’t like her food. You should ask her vet if she should have a certain type of food, or supplement to her food (some people supplement dog food with eggs or something like that for specific problems)

could also be lack of exercise- she might not be able to digest her food b/c she’s not exercising enough- try walking her around the block after she eats or something

good luck! :-)

Charles asks…

How much (home-prepared) food should I feed my dog?

I’ve been making recipes for my dog; this one I made calls for 2-3 meatballs a day. My mom is freaking out because she thinks I’m starving my dog… am I supposed to actually feed him 2-3 meatballs a day like the recipe says? just incase you need reference here
1 1/2 lbs fatty raw hamburger mince
1/2 cup wheat germ oil or wheat germ
3 eggs
3 cups oatmeal
Form into meatballs. Place on cookie sheet, put in freezer. After frozen, put in containers. Microwave about 30 seconds per meatball, depending on size. Give 2-3 per day. Also excellent for the finicky eater.
It’s from a recipe in an e-book from petfoodsecrets… which costs money, but you could probably find the things he said and maybe the recipe online if you search some. I’ll give his weight as soon as possible, when I can I’ll let you know. And thank you for the advice concerning microwave foods…
he weighs 20 lbs.
the dog is a miniature schnauzer, just for more information… I was kind of confused whether they were snacks or not although it said dietry meals, but I think I’ll just ask my vet for help with home prepared meals and diets in general. I thank all of you, I’d thumbs up everyone but I’m only ‘level 1′ so. I just want to make good healthy food for my dog and not have to worry about what’s in it which is why I want to make it myself.

One important piece of information is missing here. How many meatballs are you making from this recipe? If you are making 5 meatballs from this and your dog is not very active then 2-3 a day would be about right. If this is all you are feeding your dog its not a balanced diet. If the meatballs are fed as treats its OK. The amount to feed your dog is enough to maintain a healthy weight. If he’s too thin, feed more. If he’s overweight, feed less. Its that simple.
