How old do dogs have to be before they can eat normal dog food?
I just got a puppy and he’s 6 weeks old…my brother said that they’re not supposed to eat normal dog food untill 8 weeks but my step-mother and my dad say it’s fine.

You mean wet vs. Dry food? We got our dog at 8 weeks old and she was on dry food – PUPPY FOOD- I think I would ask the vet when you take him in for shots, or my Petco store has always been very helpful.
Petco will also take anything back -just so you know – if you buy a food and you try it for a week or so, and the dog just doesn’t seem to like it, but you still have half a bag left – they will still take it back. I liked that about them.
They will need to eat puppy food until they are a year old, though.
Check out animalplanet.com they have a section about dogs and in there they should have a guide for this.
You know that chocolate is bad for dogs. Grapes and bubbelgum and salmon as well.
Carrots are very good for dogs. Raw green beans as well, but mine prefers carrots- again though, that may be something that should wait until he is a dog not a puppy!

My mom obnoxiously feeds our dogs human, hospital food from her work. I keep telling her not to feed them that crap food. She is so stubborn and she doesn’t want to listen. She thinks she knows what’s right for them because she says, “I’m a nurse.” Obviously she doesn’t. I care for these dogs and I want them to live a happy, long, healthy life. I’ve thrown away the disgusting hospital food from our fridge but it somehow get‘s restocked full of that crap in an instant; there’s more of that crap food than there is real food for the family. I’ve tried feeding them by hand dog food with treats because that’s the only dog food made for dogs that they will eat, but they still turn their heads away from it. My mom gets angry at me when I tell her she shouldn’t be feeding them that crap. I’ve told her you might as well put the dog to sleep because your killing them anyway. There’s no way of getting through to her head, she’s so stubborn, she’s taken it as a habit, and I can’t take it no more. She’s even complained to me so many times that she’s tired of feeding the dogs and it takes her a long time do it. I told her, and showed her, hey mom look, it only takes 2 seconds to scoop a cup of dog food from the bag to the bowl, so you shouldn’t be complaining to me.
Anyway, I’m planning on passing by the grocery store to buy a bag of dog food today. I need recommendations of what brand would be the best in this situation. I’ve also tried that liquid flavor sauce to put on the dog food and doesn’t work. Thanks so much in advance.

I would not just switch 100% to dog food right away. Mix it in with the food they are currently on in increasing amounts over a 7-10 day period and then give straight dog food. As for the type of dog food, it depends on your dogs breed and age and other special health requirements. I feed my pug iams weight control which he readily accepts and keeps his weight as it should be. He was never fat but this prevents it from happening and keeping him active. Feed them in a dog dish. I would also not allow them to be near the table when you or family is eating so they don’t beg.
With a little perserverence, you can break this bad habit.

My Friends Dog Wont Eat Dog Food.?
Okay well, shes 11 and shes my neighbor, and there dog is sooooo skinny!!! They Free-feed him but he doesn’t eat. I told them a way to get them to eat is to stop free feeding and get him on a schedule. The dog takes like 1 Bite every 2-3 days! I feel really bad. That dog loves my family and has escaped his electric fence soo many time to our yard cause my dad gives him treats (my dad spoils every dog on the planet lol) I asked my friend what kind of food they feed him and she said IDK all it says on the bag is “Dog Food” and Absolutely nothing else. I told her to switch to a Higher brand or better yet feed a raw diet. I always send them videos and links about raw feeding and how its soo much better and the dogs enjoy it much much more! Then one day im like to my friend are you guys gonna switch to raw feeding or not. and she said (its probably a lie because i don’t think a vet would actually say this) “My vet said Wired Haired Terriers cant eat Raw Food, and that Free Feeding is way better than scheduled feeding.” Do you think the vet actually said that or did she make it up? Oh and they give their dog Absolutely nooooooo human food.
My Dad gave it treats only one time and they were there and we asked for permission. But now their dog comes to our yard and he only ate 3 treats.

Vets do not say that about raw food or free feeding as they do not do that.
That is an untruth from your friend.
What should be done is have the dog see a vet for proper care as it seems he is not getting that and that could be why he is not eating.
They can be sick, have worms that will cause all sorts of problems.
He needs vet care and shots to better the dog and with out them the dog can become sick and die and I do not think your friend cares that much or can do any thing.
The dog could be tolerant to the food they are feeding him
He could not like the food any more……there are a lot of reasons here and it seems your friend doesn’t care about the care of their dog.
So I think you know the answer here, the dog is not cared for properly.
