Your Questions About [get Your Dog To Eat]

Thomas asks…
how to convince your dog to eat it’s food?
My dog is a three year old shih tzu and ever since she was a little puppy I have done nothing but spoil her and that is why I am starting to see that was not such a good thing to do because I really want her to eat normal dry dog food but ever since I have started trying this ( started three weeks ago) she has pretty much refused it and I have to try and force feed her and even then it seems impossible. I guess it all started when I decided to add a new dog to the family and I was not real aware of it at first but the new dog had kennel cough and would not eat so the vet told me to try canned dog and it worked so the minute she was back to normal eating normal dog food but my other dog got jealous I guess so I started feeding her canned food because like I said I give her anything she wants except foods they can’t eat. She has been on canned food for about a year now and I am aware this is not really a healthy choice so I really want her on a better diet but she refuses so does anyone have some ideas of what I can do?
I have tried the one where you put wet food in with it and all she ate was the wet food and would not touch the dry stuff.

Not all canned food is unhealthy. You can try the low fat canned food for your dogs, with vitamins and such. The spoiled dog will honestly be hard to break, since its habit is obviously to eat delicious food and not plain dry…
My best suggestion is to maybe keep feeding canned food , but it has to be low fat. The more fat a dog eats, the higher the risk of diabetes and broken joints they may get when they become older.(My 11 yr old dog recently went to the clinic because she was throwing up and was not eating at all , so the doctor said we should switch from regular dry food to canned food-extremely low fat, and she is so healthy and happy now)
Hope this helps!!

Difficult question about dog biscuits, want to hear your opinions!?
I know this is going to be like opening a can of worms but I want to hear everyone’s opinions on the matter.
The quality and variety of dog biscuits here is pretty limited – Royal Canin, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet / Hills, Pedigree, Super Coat and a few other grocery brands.
I was wondering what are the real benefits of feeding dogs biscuits and could I cut the biscuits right out of my almost 6 month old puppy’s diet now?!
Would an all raw meat diet (with veggies, and brown rice) suffice?
Here is some basic info about my puppy:
Age – well that’s above
Gender – Male
Weight – last weighed 3 weeks ago and he was just under 10kgs, if I had to guess he’s probably about 13kgs now. He isn’t fat, more muscle. The vet predicts he is going to be anywhere from 20-30kgs fully grown
Breed – Mix: Staffie x Kelpie
Health – currently treating conjunctivitis (that has nothing to do with biscuits), was told by the vet when he was 3 months he has dry skin / coat which he is getting an Omega 3, 6, 9 supplements (a dry supplement every day as well as an oil supplement each second day)
Diet – currently we are trialing RC biscuits: 2 soup spoons in the morning, maybe a soup bone (they have less fat) during the day (I try to give him at least 3 a week for his teeth), then for dinner he either gets, half a tin of whatever tin dog food I buy from the grocery stores that’s on sale or pet quality mince (I like to mix it up). He also gets random treats whenever we are training.
Thanks for replying, and I look forward to reading your responses!

Oh and he is walked almost every day for a min of 30mins. Otherwise we play fetch in the backyard for 20-30mins
Im not talking about Biscuit Treats for him. Im talking about normal dog biscuits as part of his normal food… can I eliminate them from his diet?

I changed over to raw diet a few months ago and have been very happy with it. Her poops are smaller and don’t smell anywhere as bad. Her coat really is softer (everyone always said so but I doubted it. Her shedding has decreased as everyone said as well.
I feed her
mince
chicken carcases minced (bones included)
chicken necks
lamb necks
beef tongue
beef liver
hearts
veges.
I used to include rice, but cut it out about 3 weeks ago. I do include veges. I make up enough for 3 days and feed her 2/3 in the evening 1/3 in the morning. I also add calcimined and apple cidar vinegar as it has lots of vitamins.

What kind of Dog food do you feed your little buddy?
I use the Solid gold for my little princess…..it seems to be making her real gasy? My SIL feeds her pup the same stuff and she says the same thing? Just wondering if anyone else uses it or what you use for your dog. Thanks!
For those of you that don’t know solid gold is organic…..I feed her the Hund-n-Flocken
no corn meal. Used to feed her Purina one, switched it after she was 6 months.

We actually fed our pup the Wolf cub which is the puppy to the Hunder-flocken. Our dog gets gas too but mostly from all the organic materials that are in the food. This is perfectly normal, unless it’s irratating for you then maybe you want to switch it!
