Your Questions About [get Your Dog To Eat]

Mark asks…
Can feeding a dog human junk food cause or further aggravate canine diabetes?
The reason I ask is we have a friend that’s fed her dog cheetos, doritos, pizza, and all other imaginable forms of junk food all it’s life and it has diabetes and needs to be put down. It’s obese as well. I would like to educate her, but I’m trying to find a way without being judgmental, so please, people don’t call me judgmental. I had a question about how to educate her, and most of the responses I got were ones calling me judgmental. Save the lectures as well as your and my time if you are going to lecture me on being “judgmental”.
I had one post tell me that feeding a dog all those things doesn’t cause canine diabetes, but I don’t believe it. I know with human adult onset diabetes, eating junk food all ones life can cause or further aggravate it. Is this the case with dogs?
Jamie, this isn’t my dog. This is a friend’s dog, and is now too sick and needs to be put down.
The dog is 9 years old and his legs are also giving out on him. One of the legs is pretty much useless now.
He’s a Minpin.
Crysiana, you are rude.

All of those foods have some kind of onion component. That causes major issues with dogs so maybe you can start with that tact with talking to her.
Odds are if the dog does not eat junk, table scraps, gets walked and such the dog will bounce back. It is her choice to make the effort to learn enough to keep her dog healthy or not….. Or at least try.
It is not judgmental if you tell her as it is a little life. She may just not get the whole idea. But if she does not get it or tries then you might think about taking a new measure of your friend.

Jenny asks…
Survey: Do you feed your dog human food from time to time?

admin answers:
Yes, I sometimes give him a bit of the meat that I’m eating.
Ie, if I’m cooking chicken, I’ll chop up a few bits of raw chicken to mix in with his food
or a spoonful of boiled rice or pasta, or spoonful of minced beef, etc.
Probably no more than 15% of his total meal, mixed in with his kibble.

William asks…
what can happen if you give your dog human food?
Well my family when there over at my place I put her in her coral and they would feed her through the gate, I get really mad and tell them to not feed the dog but they dont seem to get it and I dont want to get to extremes and have to lock her in to a room… I would like to have her around my family but with out her being feed. Also Ive noticed that its becoming a health problem because she’s throughing up the food that was given to her.

Im not completely sure on what would happen. But the vet i take my dogs to say not to give them human food unless it’s like fruits & veggies. But i know for sure to keep them away from chocolate & grapes. Which of both could kill them. Human food isnt made for dogs, obviously, thats why they have their own. They should stick to that. And as far as your family, just keep telling them that you dont want your dog to have it. If they dont listen, be more stern about it and show them that you’re serious. Idk if i was much help, but that’s what id do. But i know if it was my family, id snap & tell them exactly what i thought & felt…hope i helped somewhat
