Your Questions About [get Your Dog To Eat]

Mark asks…

Homemade dog food easy and quick?

I have a year old chihuahua, I got her when she was 5 months old, and she has always had an eating problem. She sometimes gets low blood sugar, so i give her nutrical. But recently I got so tired of waking up at 4am hearing my dog throw up, i feel so terrible because i cant do anything. I have taken her to the vet and she perfectly healthy. But she has a fast metabolism. I switched her to Homemade food, and she eats it. But i feel like shes not getting enough nutrients. Right now im feeding her chicken and white rice. I add karyo syrup and extra virgin olive oil in with the rice and water. One to help with her coat and two to keep her sugar up. Can someone help me on what to give her. She weighs 3.8lbs on a good day, I DONT want to give her any meat thats not chicken.
Thank you so much!

Oh and also my dog is a picky eater and she eats green beans but when i put it in with her food she picks it out. anyway to stop that? or no?

My Cocker Spaniel’s (Dylan) life and health has literally been saved by homemade meals.
1st off – puppies need calories so get a liquid or gel high calorie vitamin from pet store – dogs love the taste.
2nd – it’s important to get a food processor so the meat is ground up well after being very well cooked.
I steam the chicken thorougly, then grind in food processor. Reason is, puppies and senior dogs will throw up when they have to digest large chunks of food. Then take the chicken broth from the cooked chicken and soak the vegies in it – works every time.
Do serious online digging as to what homemade foods will work best with a fast metabolism and low sugar for a 5 month old chihuahua.
This web page helped me after weeks of trying to land the right diet specific to Dylan’s nutritional needs.

throwing up is serious – keep your puppy hydrated and get another vet opinoun if possible

Chris asks…

Is it ok to give your dog homemade food?

Is it alright to give your dog food that you make at home instead of dog food from the store. like what is you mixed some vegetables rice and chicken and gave it to him/her. This is all in the dog food except that it is fresh and does not contains any preservatives. Won’t this be better for the dog?
Also can you feed your dog fish?

This is a website i saw that explains why homemade meals are better? so is it true?

Yes it is true. Chicken, rice and vegetables is whats in dog food with lots of other stuff that dogs don’t need! I don’t think its more expensive then a good Quality dog food, because the dog would be eating with the family eats, whats the big deal about throwing another chicken in the pot!

My dog is on a high protein diet now.(he has cancer) He eats Chicken breast and egg whites, Fish, Steak, Boiled hamburger meat. His diet is alot more expensive because he can’t eat vegetables…

There are many sites you can consult for recipes but you are setting yourself up for quite a bit of work. Premium dog foods include digestive enzymes and additives for skin, coat, teeth and eyes to name a few. And dry kibble helps keep your dogs teeth clean and actually assists in keeping the anal glands clean out as the feces is kept firm. I’m not trying to dissuade you. I just want you to understand that you may be going to alot of work and expense for something you could purchase already done. I have two Goldens and they are fed Natural Choice large breed with sporting dog added for extra calories. During the winter and when they are working/training (they are search dogs) I add brown rice and fresh, steamed veggies to their food. But the base remains hard kibble. They are gorgeous, strong animals. I have included a site that has numerous recipes you can try. Really, really research it and talk to your vet before you do it. That way you’re armed with the right info. Good luck!
